:: GENERAL INFO
Puerto Vallarta is one of the few places on Earth that can boast an "ideal" climate. It is temperate, but with sub-tropical vegetation. A dense, green, palm jungle covers the mountains behind the town, nestled in a bowl at the base of the Sierra Madres. The Bay offers shelter from harsh Pacific winds and hard weather. Vallarta enjoys 345 days of sunshine each year, with average daytime temperatures reaching into the high 80's. It makes for an ideal environment to explore, hike in the local mountains, kayak or dive, whale watch (The Humpback whales come every winter to the warm Mexican waters of Banderas Bay) or just visit one of the many beautiful beaches. Trips to nearby beaches can be made on leisurely boat trips, which sail from the marina each day. One of the most beautiful spots is Yelapa, a tropical village along with a beautiful beach, where you can horseback ride along mountain trails or walk to a waterfalls. The old town has retained its quaint charm. Picturesque colonial and whitewashed buildings, cobblestone streets that wind in and out, red spanish tile roofs, and a brilliant profusion of flowers and jungle-like fauna differentiate Puerto Vallarta from any destination. The architecture mirrors the colonial facades with brickwork and flowering plants. The beauty and charm of Puerto Vallarta is symbolized by the landmark Church of Guadalupe. Built in 1951, located in the picturesque main plaza. The red brick bell tower is topped by a crown modeled after the one worn by Mexico’s 18th century Empress Carlota With the sub-tropical climate, this is a very warm and often hot area throughout most of the year. Average temperature is around 27º. Around this area humidity is also a factor to take into consideration. The average level of humidity hovers around 90º. During the summer months, June to August, it is HOT in Puerto Vallarta. Be sure to wear light clothes, preferably of natural fibers such as cotton and hats are important too! Sunscreen is a must here, for all skin types as the sun rays are particularly strong this time of year. When packing for your trip to Puerto Vallarta, be sure to pack cool clothes, beach towels, hats, sunglasses, a light jacket and pants for wintertime and again, A LOT of sunscreen!
