FUKUOKA, JAPAN - JAPANESE IMMERSION

:: CLASS SCHEDULE
Classes take place between Monday and Friday:

All classes are held on a rolling start basis. This means that you enter an ongoing class, partway through that class’s syllabus. If your ability level is slightly below the level of that class, we provide free “catch-up classes” to raise you to the appropriate level.

The exception to this is complete beginners, who start from the first Monday of each month only. If you are the only student at your specific level when you arrive, a new class will be created for you.

The school provides all teaching materials, but you must bring paper, pens, and a bilingual dictionary

:: CONVERSATIONAL JAPANESE COURSES
For people who need to be able to communicate in Japanese, this course offers a heavy emphasis on real-life skills. Learning Japanese just by reading textbooks and listening to tapes doesn't make you a Japanese language speaker.

You will study common sentence patterns and vocabulary with your teacher, then use them in practical situations both inside and outside of the classroom. Our course offers a full range of activities that you will find both useful and exciting.

Our Conversational Japanese course uses interesting and modern materials and activities to focus on improving your Japanese speaking ability in a way that gives you the flexibility to adapt to new situations, until one day you won't even need a teacher anymore!

Small-group classes are given both inside and outside of the classroom - you will learn essential communication techniques in structured lessons with the teacher, then practice them in real-world situations, such as:

Calling a movie theater to ask for showtimes
Ordering delivery sushi
Calling a restaurant to make reservations
Giving a questionnaire to people in the park
Asking for directions at the train station

EXAMP PREP. COURSES
For people who want to pass any of the Japanese proficiency tests.

You will study grammar, vocabulary (including kanji), reading skills and listening with your experienced teachers, aimed at achieving your exam goals with ease. You will have the chance to check your progress every week, using previous test papers.

Passing a standardized Japanese exam provides you with a way to prove your level of Japanese skill to potential employers, universities, and more.

In addition, studying for exams is a great way to motivate yourself with a clear goal. While some exam skills can be studied for independently, working with a teacher greatly increases the speed and effectiveness of your study. We offer study courses for the following three widely recognized exams:

JLPT: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or JLPT. The most widely recognized and most popular test. Administered only once a year, on the first Sunday in December. Students can choose to take one of 4 levels.
Courses are offered every year, between September and December (for as many weeks as you prefer)

JETRO:The JETRO Business Japanese Test. A newer test, focused on practical business skills. Administered twice a year (June and November). Test-takers are given a level from J1 to J4.
Courses are offered every year, between April and June, and September and November (for as many weeks as you prefer)

JTEST:The JTEST. This is the newest and least well-known of all the tests. It is held 5 times a year, and is relatively cheap to take.
Courses are offered year-round.

Activities & Excursions
You will also have the opportunity to enjoy numerous excursions and tours of the city and its surroundings including:
Every Friday students will enjoy a party, we take students to a different local restaurant to experience Japanese cuisine at its finest, whether its eating live fish, or a restaurant with a two-storey waterfall inside!

We show a Japanese movie every week in the student lounge.

Onsen Trip: We take students to a local onsen (hot spring)

Special classes taught by visiting lecturers on Japanese cultural topics, that any students can attend. Recently, we have offered special classes on Japanese flower arranging, tea ceremony, and calligraphy.

Weekend activities could include: outings to local festivals, shows, and famous places, depending on the interest of our students. For example, we regularly visit Mt. Aso (the largest active volcano in Japan), a pottery workshop for hands-on practice, and a soba noodle workshop.

Japanese Culture
Are you interested in Japanese culture? This course offers you the opportunity to learn about the culture while learning the language, and the chance to participate in it with other Japanese people.

You will study topics such as ceramics, tea ceremony, calligraphy, and flower arrangement at school, and then join real lessons run for Japanese people with a specialist teacher, as well as learning about Japanese customs, history, and art. We guarantee that you will have a great experience!

Kimono
Ceramics
Tea ceremony
Calligraphy

Religion/spirituality
Customs

All classes are based on gaining an understanding of and appreciation for Japanese culture, learning a specific point of Japanese, and participating in the beauty of Japanese traditional art.

First, you will study the background and history of a topic, then practice vocabulary and sentence patterns related to that topic, using practical materials. Finally, when ready, you will participate in classes with a specialist teacher.
